Undergraduate Research Scholarships (URS)
The NEW UVic Undergraduate Research Scholarship (URS) program was instituted this year by the Vice-President Academic and Provost to provide support for exceptional undergraduate students who might otherwise not be able to obtain a direct research experience as a part of what we anticipate should be a truly formative learning experience. The Learning and Teaching Centre (LTC) has been asked to administer the award nomination process on behalf of the Provost’s Office.
Eligible students include all full-time 3rd and 4th year undergraduate students (registered in 12 or more units of study in the Winter Session) in excellent academic standing (minimum sessional GPA requirement of 7). Students must be working directly with a faculty member on a research project. Each academic unit has been allotted $3000 per year in URS funding. The funds can be awarded to one student, or split between two students ($1500 per student). Should a unit choose to split the award, it should submit two separate nomination forms. The process of selection is at the discretion of the unit, but should be fair and equitable and have the support of colleagues. It will be necessary to document briefly how selection was made for accountability purposes.
