Video competition: Internet-of-Intelligence

Post by cai »

Our technical community is developing advanced communication, networking, signal processing, learning, and control technologies for not only people but also all types of things, from sensors, appliances, autonomous driving vehicles, robots, drones, and satellites. When the “things” can acquire, process, and exchange information and react to it, they become smart and intelligent to solve many problems not possible or even not imaginable today.

All are encouraged to submit a 13 minutes video to demonstrate an example of the above vision. This example can be related to your own research and development efforts or simply from your imagination. If you use some existing images/video-clips from the Internet, remember to clearly cite the sources in your video.

We’ll select up-to three awardees, and recognize the meritorious participants in our local event (sponsored by IEEE VTS/ComSoc Chapter in Victoria Section) in June 2022.

Video submission deadline: May 31, 2022
Submission method: Please email Lin Cai (cai@ece.uvic.ca) the link to access your video. Using "Video Competition, TOWARD INTERNET-OF-INTELLIGENCE” in the subject line of your email.

Note: While all of our students can participate in the competition, only the IEEE members (including student members and grad student members) can be the awardees. (Visit https://students.ieee.org/become-a-member/ if you are interested in becoming a student member of the leading technology and engineering professional organization. )

======
this could be an excellent opportunity to prepare a pitch talk of your research, see and many online tutorial of how to prepare a research pitch

Hello all, here is the link to my video: https://youtu.be/E6hoJ7ZZRrA
Suggestions are welcome!

It is only the first draft to be used for this Thursday. I will hold on a bit and revise it after collecting all the suggestions.

I appreciate the suggestions from Dr. Cai and Dr. Pan. Summarized as follows:

  1. transition is too quick
  2. can change the speed and tone to make it more attractive (e.g., after a question, add a pause)
  3. remove something (less attractive) and leave the time to the interesting parts

Hope the suggestions above are also helpful to you!

Best,
Rui Liu

I'm pleased to announce the award winners for the first Video Competition event.

The best presenter award goes to Xin Gu and Rui Liu. (we have a tie this year.)
The runner-up award goes to Yuan Liu.

We'll have a small VTS/ComSoc chapter event later this year to celebrate it.
