feel like a family: to all the friends, alumni, relatives and members of the uvic ee/cs networks groups

from time to time, exception happens, which also affects our members and alumni, e.g., moving between jobs, family issues or delays in external funding. sometimes, the exception also affects the daily necessity such as renting and meals. in previous years, cailin and i wrote personal checks to those affected, some as gift and some returned by those whose funding was received later

after discussing with some members, we think a group members and alumni endorsed emergency loan is a better approach. it will allow us to support those in temporary emergency better and faster, without affecting their study, research, work, family and so on. the interest-free loan will only cover daily necessity, and shall be return by those who benefit from it within a reasonable time

to bootstrap, we solicit contributions from group members and alumni, and as usual, cailin and i will match all contributions from our group members and alumni, administer the loan, evaluate the need and determine the amount and duration for the necessity. all contributions will be booked and announced unless contributors prefer otherwise. all loans/returns will be announced anonymously

so if you want to contribute, please inform me. together, we can help our members and alumni better. note it is a personal loan, totally separate from research funding. you do not need to give me the money right away, but can endorse first. i will provide a receipt when receiving the money. as the loan is supposed to be 0-overhead, you can always get your contribution back anytime. Thanks!
