proctoring ieee student competition teams

Dear Colleagues: if you are an ieee member, please read on…

ieee is sponsoring an online worldwide programming competition, from utc
00:00:00 oct 22 (which is this friday 5pm in victoria), for 24 hours!

the local ieee section and the uvic ieee student branch have involved 11
uvic students (grad and undergrad, in ee/cs) in four teams to participate.
they just had a dry run last friday and they are all eager “ready to go”

according to ieee rules, a proctor (ieee full member) should be always on
site (in ecs342). we have a duty shift schedule (it’s hard for us to be up
for 24 hours nowadays πŸ˜‰ and we need one more primary proctor (covering
either from friday 10:30pm to saturday 7am, or from saturday 12:30pm to
6pm) and some backups (just in case someone is sick or other things)

if you can help, please drop me a line with the chosen slot (and a cell
phone number if you have one). thanks a lot for helping our students

the current duty shift schedule:

“oct 21, 4pm to 11pm: Jim (and possibly me, as i have a visitor that day)

oct 21, 10:30 to oct 22, 7am: (possibly i will have to take it πŸ˜‰

oct 22, 6:30am to 1pm: Sudhakar

oct 22, 12:30pm to 6pm: (Jim said he would show up again, but it’s better
we have another person around as well during the endgame)”

some fun fact about this year’s competition:

“Over 4000 students are registered which means 1300+ teams.”

“Twenty-six of these teams are from one school, IIT Bubaneswar in India.”
