years ago, in the old victoria uptown walmart, a seemingly well-dressed old lady passed by on my back and whispered something—i was shocked, cannot believe it, and thought i heard it wrong, and then she repeated it again on my other side—“chinese go to hell”. i took out the most famous cell phone, looked at her and asked her politely: “can you say that again?” she’s scared and fled away—even bad people can behave “better” in the public
